Church and Society
In 2007 the Church and Society Committee raised consciousness in the congregation and promoted social justice in the community through the following endeavors:
• Encouraged the use of the Social Creed in worship;
• Highlighted topics from the Social Principles in the monthly Footprints;
• Developed a referral list for people in need (many thanks to Sandy Lyon and Steph Sundholm);
• Heard reports from the chairpersons of Evangelism and Mission Committees so that we would not duplicate their efforts;
• Continued to update the Church and Society bulletin board in the narthex (many thanks to Jeanne and Don Worm);
• Began providing a Sunday morning display of social justice related magazines and books for people to check out;
• Worked with the Bryant Road Building Committee to ensure that our new church would use environmentally friendly building materials and techniques;
• Helped to promote the CROP Walk;
• Collaborated with Missions Committee on development of notecards, the sale of which would benefit the Front Porch Orphans of Zambezi’s further education;
• Began to learn about the Household Economics Covenant. |
